Well, one thing I've noticed - which I'm sure will get some jeers - is that PrC's, ACF's, class variants, and such designed with the Wizard in mind emphasize the Magic part of it (obviously), but those with a *Sorcerer* in mind like to bring out the idea of "hey, I can do more than just cast spells!". One of my favourite ideas is the Battle Sorcerer, who loses a bit of spellcasting ability but makes up for it by actually being non-horrid in combat - d8, 3/4 BAB, able to wear I believe light armor and wield martials.. which means that, for example, he doesn't feel completely useless in an AMF, or by being grappled. It's a shame that "MAD" plus "less spellcasting" knocks him down a bit, but it still looks immensely fun.

1. For the feat build I literally only have two levels left to plug in. It doesn't matter if it's a fixed feat or from a selection of feats as long as it's listed as a *feat* in the description. Unfortunately, homebrew is not an option because that depends more on DM fiat than pretty much anything else! So, literally, any two class levels (four if I remove the Bloodline) that give bonus feats are fair game - as long as I can do it in Lawful (or find a substitute for Monk2 - which'll give me the ability to take Wu Jen 1).

2. Tiefling Paladin is already planned, and Aasimar is the only one that I'm building "special" - Assassin and/or Blackgruard. Warforged is going to be Druid - I'm planning something like GIR, from Invader Zim. Wizard I believe was something funky like Troglodyte, I'll have to look into it. I'm pretty much sticking to MM1 for races barring the Warforged (because I love that concept so much!).. and IIRC Ghost Fighter is even in the MM.

(The problem with using other books for "play against type" is unless you're intimately familiar with those other books, you won't realize they're PAT characters, whereas pretty much everyone "gets" what's in the MM.)

Board Games and Other Non-RPG's / Re: M:tG Deck Tips?

Alright, in an extremely generic manner, I would like to ask what steps I would have to consider while making a creature-free deck.

If you're trying for a "generic" creatureless deck, there's a few things you can look at.
1. Cards the remove your choice of more than one card type, ideally ones that say they remove permanents. I'm talking about Vindicate, Maelstrom Pulse or even Oblivion Ring here. Anything that gets a *permanent* off the board will also work with creatures, and aren't useless if you're not worried about their creatures.
2. Mass removal of some sort, the best being the kind that hist the opponent as well. Lavalanche is a good example, or any of the various Earthquake/Hurricane variants.
3. Using his own cards against him. This could be something as simple as Mind Control or Volition Reins to something more sneaky. A few years ago I was at a Vintage tournament in the US. I was playing an (admittedly bad) Psychatog variant, but I knew Worldgorger Dragon was a big deck.. so I added Animate Dead and Stroke of Genius to my list, both to fuel the Tog and to give me a way to win with my opponent's own Dragon! (Short version: Animate Dead + WGD = both cards bounce in and out of the battlefield, all based on triggered abilities, and you can tap your lands and artifacts for mana in between, allowing infinite mana so you can win with Stroke of Genius at your opponent for more than his library.)

You said his graveyard is the key. See the graveyard as an extension of his hand. Play with cards that are ok on their own but really good against the graveyard - Nihil Spellbomb sees play because at worst it'll get you another card, and at best it kills the graveyards.

Good luck!

DnD 3.5 and Pathfinder / Re: Christ for Crowd Control!

I'd also like to mention that I've run into a lot of gamers over the years who are either atheistic, agnostic, or have beliefs where the New Testament isn't part of it - the Jews don't use the New Testament at all, and neither do Muslims as far as I am aware. I've also played with a lot of people who follow other traditions, like Wiccan, for example. So for someone not to be aware of Biblical quotes with respect to gaming.. I'm surprised that people are surprised, given the amount of people that believe in things other than the New Testament.

Now, where's those scrolls from Sarpadian Empires volume IV again..

OK, I have two things I want to try:

1. Due to class levels and not things like flaws, Elder Evils and the like, and ignoring what you get for your character level, what's the most number of feats you can get in 20 levels? It doesn't matter if it's a specific feat or a selection - if it's listed as a free bonus feat, it counts. Thus far what I have is this:

Lawful Half-Elf
Half-Elf Paragon 1/Fighter 2/Ranger 3/Monk 2/Wizard 1/Feat Rogue (UA, feats instead of SA) 1/UA Expert 2/UA Warrior 2/UA Spellcaster 1/Cleric* 1/Bloodline** 2

* Cleric domains that give free feats, from PHB and SpC (the only books I had handy): Darkness, Domination, Drow, Dwarf, Elf, Metal, Planning, Rune, Time, Undeath, War, Wealth.
** Bloodline, intermediate gives you two feats if your bloodline is from one of the following: Elemental (any), Fey, Genie (djinn or efreeti), Giant (cloud, fire, frost, stone, or storm only), Slaad, Titan, Troll, Vampire, Yuan-Ti.

Looks like I only need two more levels for feats.

2. I'm designing a group of EL10 characters that are all "play against type", giving an odd creature type to each base class in the PHB. Everyone sees, say, an Orc and thinks Barbarian, maybe Fighter, or something like that. For the sake of this particular group of characters, I'm making it a Cloistered Cleric of Ehlonna. All of them only have a single class, no PrC'ing or multiclassing. Most of these characters I can figure out how to build them except this:

The Monk is a Pixie, no Otto's Irresistable Dance.
I am to use Flyby Attack on this character. (Don't ask.)

The major issue I'm having is resolving it conceptually in my mind. If I can get that down, I'm good to go. Any suggestions there would be appreciated.

TIA

Introduce Yourself / Have I eaten your sanity yet today?

Hey folks, Mindstab Thrull here. As many of you probably guessed, my nick comes from Magic: The Gathering. I've been playing since Revised and just before Legends came out. I was also playing AD&D back then, and had been for a good ten years. I've never been a hardcore optimizer though - my character ideas tend more to be "What looks interesting?" rather than "how do I break Character Idea X?" That being said, I'm hoping I can get some help with those sorts of ideas on here :D (Example: I currently have a batch of "play-against-type" characters I'm making for 3.5, so expect to see questions about odd race/class combos!)

OK, I think that's enough rambling *here* for now. Adios!

I agree. Shame we have to go through this but I understand why.
