Do Inevitables count?  They're not creatures with the Outsider type, but they're definitely Outsider-ish.  And Extraplanar.
I'm not arguing, I'm explaining why I'm right.

My preferences are for Outsiders that have a definite "hook."  By definition, they embody an ideal or a philosophy.  The best ones are ones that embody one that is inherently interesting but also something you can wrap your head around.  Most of the fiends do a good job at this:  Demons/Tanar'ri (ravening destructive chaos), Devils/Baatezu (organized evil and temptation), and so on.  They get into trouble when the philosophy is too opaque to make it readily accessible at the game table.  Or, when they muddy it.  For instance, I'd prefer Baatezu to be the tempting soul bargainer types, but succubi are Tanar'ri.

I really like the Archons and Slaadi; the Slaadi because I enjoy the flavor behind them, the Archons just because they.... I don't know? I enjoy the flavor behind them.

Edit: I'm not very good at this. .__."

None of the above, as DnD does the whole concept all wrong. This falls under its one glaring failure.

Can I haz crunch?

My fave outsiders are the Demons (I prefer Chaotic over Lawful ^^', plus Orcus imho is one of the greatest badasses of D&D cosmology) and the Yugoloths (the "pure evil" outsiders).

In "Faces of evil, the fiends" (AD&D planescape handbook) at page 67 there's a full page of an Arcanaloth holding two puppets: a Balor and a Pit Fiend. I think that's, conceptually, the best illustration to show the relation between 'loths and the whole Blood War (one of my favourite things about D&D cosmology) thing.
