A list of recommended templates by color? Would that mean most are red? :P

otherwise, I've got everything I need in one of my docs.

I'll eventually be doing something like that.  I keep geting asked to put up a list of tricks one can perform with templates, but what kind of tricks are people looking for is the question.  Do you guys want stuff for DM's as well as players?

I'm always a PC, but others would want both.

the ones I know that are totally broken...
lycanthropy
bug-thropy
tauric
symbiotic

these can utilize 99% of templates w/o sacrificing LA

Are there any abilities widely coveted enough besides casting to list off?

... Psi-like abilities? :P

I care a good deal about Spell Resistance, but I might be the only one.

?

i.e. if i list Special Attacks/Qualities which ones are considered worthwhile to list if the template gives them other than casting.

The question is: What would you consider worthwhile?

i guess it really depends on the situation

SLAs by #/day?
non-natural armor AC bonuses
save bonuses
natural attacks that stack w previous ones
new speeds
ability score bonuses

those are a few i can think of

Here's another vote for new speeds, and also increases in existing speeds. A full list of SLAs would be too long to be useful for some templates, but it might be nice to know: Does the template give SLAs? What's the highest-level spell in an SLA? Are the SLAs usable at will, per day, or on some other schedule?

Templates separated into sections for different playstyles mayhaps? Or rather not separated but given reccommendations for such. Maybe as part of the indexing.

"Over here we have our arcane caster friendly models.*
While over here you can find some more divine focused models.*
And off in that corner are your pouncers.
That shelf is full of glomp friendly types, from your grapplers(Improved Grabs, ect) to your heavy eaters(Swallow Whole, ect) to your lazy couch potatoes(Crush or whatever)."

*cough*Edit: And by that I don't mean simply templates that grant spell like abilities or what not, but rather ones that can advance/stack with spellcasting of other classes one might have. Like, off the top of my head, there is that Dragonspawn template from Dragonlance that progresses and/or stacks with previous/future sorcerer levels to determine spell stuffs.

Include my LA:-- to LA:x thread? Many, many templates without an LA can be assigned one and used without breaking the game. The designers were just pansies and/or didn't know how to estimate LA correctly.
